How to Create a New Software Component

Dear All,

I am trying to prepare a list of steps to develop add-on products over SAP ECC 6.0. I was just wondering how to create a Software component for my namespace development, which I would like to assign my development package to.

Any ideas or guidance is highly appreciated.

The developments would be done in ABAP and I will create a package in the ECC only. Not sure why you asked me to address this question in PI forum.

I thought of that as SWCV(Software Component Versions), the smallest shipment unit in PI.

So I asked you to go for PI. And as far as your post is concerned, it is a very basic question and answering such question is not

allowed according to SDN rules.

Abhinab,

Creating the software component is not a basic task. I am not sure if you ave heard of the concept of Add-on Assembly Kit. I am sure very few people have a knowledge of this tool, as not every ABAP guy would get a chance to work on the product development and product packaging in SAP domain.

Though I have figured out myself how to work on this..

Hi VG,

I think I am just facing the same issue right now. Like you we do not want to do XI/PI development. We registered namespace and starting on developing a product based on ECC, which should be on a seperate namespace. We have read of AddOn Assembly Kit, but we don't have it for th emoment. We might have it at a later stage.

Still we would like to create an own Product and SC for shipment purposes. We created Product and SC in SLD but we are not able to select it in the SE80 dialogues of creating development objects. We haven't found away or documentation on how to sychnronize the SCs from SLD to ABAP system.

• Is it possible to create SCs in the systme directly which will then show up for development objects?
• Is it mandatory to have the Assembly Kit? (costs good money)
• Is it possible to do all that in a later stage? (we saw it's possible to reassign SC for dev ojects)

I know it's been quite some time, I would still highly appreciate a feedback as SAP docu is very limited.

Hi Stefan ,

I am in the process of creating such an ABAP-AddOn  for my company.

We have registered the namespace and got the AAK tool and the SE80 package.

Next step is getting the software component ready for the deployment.

I have searched the forums and realized there is very little content available on SCN related to creating custom SC. But i did find some useful information on these links
