I created a Z table of delivery class C, customizing that I want to be transportable.
I used Utilities -> Table Maintenance Generator.
It worked pretty well, I can maintain the data in sm30 now and I automatically get the pop-up asking for the transport request, just what I wanted.
(This is the right way of achieving this, isn't it?)
But: In sm30 the columns don't have proper names. They have the description of the data type. So that's very confusing, because instead of "Customer", "Employee" it says "Partner", "Partner".
I can't figure out how to fix it. I go into se11, put the name into the View field and click Change - but it just leads me to the maintenance of the table again, not the view. Also in the table there is no way to specify descriptions (short texts) for the columns. In se16 it shows the technical names, like CUSTOMER, EMPLOYEE, that was good enough, but the maintenance there is not working anymore since the view was generated, which is probably good as it did not put the changed entries into transport requests.
So, how do I maintain the column descriptions / short texts?

Hi Monika,
Check if you are in-line with the below steps:
1. After creating the table, create table maintenance Generator by going to the SE11-CHANGE - Utilities - Table Maintenance Generator
2. You will be prompted to the below screen . Double click on the Output screen ie Overview screen for Single Screen
3. You will get the below Screen painter 101 screen for that Maintenance view.
4. Now click on the Element List Tab ----> IN that click on Texts/IO/Templates tab, so you will find the table control as below,
If we look in the below case in the Name Column, we have field MESTYP, and in the text we have Message_Type, this can be renamed as per your requirement. This is the value displayed in the output screen.
5. Now you can change the description as required in Text or I/O field tab.
Let me know if you need more info on the same.

Do all of the Data Elements have complete labels? Including Headings?

Monika,
Both the column descriptions and short texts are determined by the Short Description and Field Labels of the data elements. Try to find the data elements with correct Field Labels (create new data elements if you need to). Then change the data elements of the fields on your custom table to the correct data elements. This will change the column headings in the maintenance dialog.
For example, data element KDNNA is 'Customer'.
You will need to re-generate the table maintenance dialog after this is done.

Eric

Hello Monika,
I found this thread detailing changing column headers to your liking. I guess this is a one time fix, because if you regenerate the maintenance view, you have to do it again...

Hello Monika,
I've had this problem happen when I utilized incorporated types, AFAIK, the table maintenance generator takes the column names from the data element description.
Best regards

Hi Monika,
You can have desired column heading by following 3 ways.
1. Change to a standard data element that has the description Customer and Employee. This might not be as simple as you have to find one with data type that is usefull to you.
2. Change the column headings on the dynpro screen generated as mentioned above by D. Floor. This is not a sustainable solution though and will not recommend unless you weigh this option better that 1. and 3.
3. Copy the standard data elements that you think work best for you to Z. Change the Description and Label to match best with your application.

Hi,
1) when the delivery class as 'A' and create tab.maintenance generator with the radio button 'No or User Recording routine', it will not ask you for the transport request.
But,
When we want to transport the entries the Delivery Class is 'C' change the radiobutton option in tmg screen as 'Standard Recording routine'..Now it ask for the Customizing request.
2)To get the column descriptions in the TMG you have to maintain the " Field Label" of the data element.Try giving the name you want to be displayed. If it still didnt work, try to generate the table maintainenance again.
Note : Dont give field labes before generating tmg
OR
you can select system->status-> click on the screen number -> go to change mode .
Enter the descriptions in the menu painter

Hi Monika,
While you are in the table maintenance view, click on "System" in the menu bar, choose option "status" from that. A dialog box appears in that you can see the screen number. Double click on the screen number. It'll navigate you to the Screen painter. Click on layout, choose change mode, and choose the column name you want to change and change the description and activate the screen.
Hope this will resolve your issue. Reward if this is helpful!

Hi Monika,
Maintain Data Element

Problem Solves......

Hii
This happens just because of the data element field label.
Make sure u have check out the data elemnt of ur field and then field label like
Here is how field label of a data element looks like.
So go to ur table in SE11 then click on the field data element--->field label
Then check out what are the contents.
If it 'Customer ' and Employee then fine.
If not then create ur own custom data element and put the field lable as ur requirement.
So basically in sm30 column name displayed what is it in their data element field label.
Some time this happen when we go with the standard data element.
