Few questions on Report programming

Hi guys,

I have few questions on report programming.

1. What is the purpose of the statement REPORT zxxx. Even if i gave a name other than my report name i don't find any difference in syntax check/Functionality.

2. What is the purpose of list headings in report program? This option will come along with the text elements and selection texts.

3. What is the purpose of logical data base. Even if it is efficient why don't we use it frequently in our reports? Is there any limitations?

Hi ,

For the first question, below is the notes for that.

1.In the above statement, you can replace the key word REPORT with the key word PROGRAM. In executable programs, PROGRAM means the same as REPORT and can be used with the latter's additions.

2.Although you do not absolutely need to specify the name rep, you should always use the name of the ABAP program from the Repository.

Hi,

1.it is executable...onlu in reports u will get output

2.u can give the understandable heading as everyone knows in areadable text format

3.it is used to combine more tables to get data,it is not used because it takes more time to give the output

1. As u told that you dint get any syntax errors even after changing the Report Name,there are chances of getting Runtime errors.

2. The usage of List Headings is when you create a list in a program, you can also create your own list and column headings.

3. The Limitation of LDB is the usage of GET statements which act similar to SELECT - ENDSELECT And also if you dont choose the proper LDB,a single LDB may contain data retrieval from so many tables ,that it would make the entire process very slow and it is very hard to find LDBs for other modules than HR.

Only in HR module the data is organized in such a way thatusing LDBs would be much simpler.

hi ,

1 .see one thing the difference is nothing ..because it will requires the report only for execution not report name..

put like this for check ...report ztest..here delete the ztest and execute ...it will works well ...

2. you can change the name of the report heading without changing the attributes of the program...and you can give long test than the attributes screen.

3 .generally logical data bases are good in retriving the data when we had a limited records and they r used for the single record execution .....when the data is more it is not suggestable and when the data needs multiple selections it is not recommended..

Hi,

The purpose of the report Name-of-report.

The statement REPORT must be the first statement of an independent program following the triggering of possible Include programs. It introduces an executable program. You must specify the name rep directly. You can use the optional addition list_options to influence the basic list of the program. You can use the other additions to set a messageclass and define a logicaldatabase.

Notes:

2.To provide the List headings and Column Headings of List.

3.Basically LDB's are used for the HR reports.While selecting the all field from the table then we can use it.

logical database is use for retriving data from database ,u cannot make any changes to these..

there is a T-code for logical database SLDB.
