email format

Hallo ,

I have a string containg the email address as a value. now i have to check its validity.i.e If it has a proper format (check if the @ and dots(.) are in proper place).

can anyone suggest me any existing Function Module if there exists any.... or any other way to check this format then Splitting the string.
