Delayed IDoc acknowledgement

Here's the scenario:

1. Send IDoc to middleware

2. Middleware updates an external application database

3. If the database update is successful

4. Send acknowledgement back to SAP

5. IDoc status is updated (possibly status 41?)

Is this possible?

Middleware is WebSphere which is SAP certified and obviously has adapters.

If this is possible, does anyone know what BAPI would need to be called by the middleware or any other way this could be accomplished? web service?

Hi,

In std SAP if the Idoc reaches receiving system the feedback would be send as message type ALEAUD to SAP, but for your case once the datas updated to target system then you want update the status of the same Idoc in SAP, for this I dont think we have any std BAPI in SAP, but still you can create a Z BAPI and need to update the status of the same Idoc.

Technically speaking you need to have very good design to proceed further.

We use a different Middleware (GenTrans), and we inbound iDocs to update the status of outbound iDocs in SAP. The Message Type is STATUS, iDoc Type STATUS01. In the Partner Profile, Process Code STA1 is assigned, which calls Task TS30000206. This updates the iDoc with whatever Status you determine. Here's an example STATUS iDoc, along with the fields we populate in our environment :

Field Populated with

TABNAM EDI_DS40

MANDT 010

DOCNUM XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX <iDoc Number you are updating>

LOGDAT 20090629

LOGTIM 044718

STATUS 12 <Status you want to set>

REPID Sterling SAPSuite <will appear in the Status detail>

STATXT Dispatch OK for GIS Workflow ID = YYYYYYYY <reference relating to your Middleware transaction>

Hi Nic,

I am not sure about the middleware concept. But, I have achieved this functionality between two SAP sytems with the help of ALEAUD Idoc.

You need to configure both the systems in such a way that the ALEAUD Idoc is returned back to the Source system. This will directly update the Idoc which exactly needs to be updated. No need to mention the Idoc as the ALEAUD IDoc itself carries the Idoc information which needs to be updated.

Yes, the updated status in the source system would be 41 if the actual Idoc got posted in the target system. Generally in the target system we set up a job which runs periodically. The program used in the job would be RBDSTATE which has standard SAP variant. You can use that send the audit back to the source system.

In the case of middleware only thing is you need to sit with the middleware guy and find out how this can be mapped to the source system. I think you should also maintain the distribution model for the ALEAUD Idoc.
