All the ALE and IDOC are cross application.

Interaction with outer world other then SAP is known as cross application.

It can be done by RFC FUNCTION MODULE,

BAPI,USEREXIT,IDOC,ALE.

Hi,

Cross-Application Components (CA)

An object that refers to all data objects (tables, entities or processes) that relate to more than one business application.

Examples of cross-application components are ALE and Workflow.

Other examples are: CATS, Data Archiving, Document Management, etc.

Definition: Cross Applications are those that are integrated and accessible across an entire system which are administered by system developers.
