what could be the use of creating a Custom Archiving Object?

And then what good would it be to write the code inside?

I assume if you experience high volumes of custom objects it might be good to archive, especially in HANA/S/4HANA where things are expensive

I don't think there's a difference with SAP deciding to create a standard Archiving Object.

I don't understand your second question.
