I have installed SAP HANA Studio Version: 1.0.48 Build id: 201301130825 (372847)

I downloaded and installed "eclipse-standard-kepler-SR2-win32-x86_64"

I am following the instruction in "ADT_740_installation.pdf"

I try to add the components through http://download.eclipse.org/releases/kepler but get a conflict error.

Here is the log:

Hi Martin,

on the update site you get version 2.28 of the ABAP Development Tools. According to the installation guide attached to the 2.28 RTC note you need HANA Studio 1.0.80 or higher.

Thanks for that. I am using a guide from 2013 where 'only' revision 43 was needed.

Do you happen to know why when in HANA Studio I go to Help->Check for Updates I get the answer 'No updates were found'?

How else am I supposed to upgrade???

Hi Martin,

you don't need to install the HANA Studio. In the meanwhile you get all HANA releated development tools also via the SAP Tools Updatesite. Just install Eclipse Kepler and add the SAP tools.

There is an excellent blog that describes the installation:

http://scn.sap.com/community/abap/hana/blog/2014/07/29/step-by-step-guide-to-setup-abap-on-hana-with...

Kind Regards,

Thomas.

Hi Thomas,

thanks for this. It almost worked without problem   I see the ABAP options, but at the end I get the following error message:

Error getting the version of the native layer: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no sapjco3 in java.library.path

Part of the message was something about ABAP comunication layer not properly configured and that this possible was caused my Microsoft-Runtime-DLLs VS2010.

You got any ideas/suggestions?

Hi Martin,

does the version of the Microsoft Runtime DLLs VS2010 matches the platform your Eclipse runs with (32/64 Bit)? In case it does, there is another known issue resulting in such an error message (Eclipse does not identify the operatings system it runs on correctly, see note 2041195).

Thanx for this, but I do not understand the instruction in the OSS.

Specify the Windows operating system explicitly by adding the following configuration to your eclipse.ini file behind the -vmargs section:

-Dorg.osgi.framework.os.name=win32

Start your Eclipse with -clean one time afterwards.

Recommendation for clean: Create a short cut for the eclipse.exe and add the "-clean" parameter to the target of the short cut.

Search terms for Eclipse Help: running eclipse startup parameters

Questions:

How do I find 'eclipse.ini'?

What does 'Start your Eclipse with -clean one time afterwards' mean?

What does 'Create a short cut for the eclipse.exe and add the "-clean" parameter to the target of the short cut' mean?

FYI: I am on Windows 8.1 64-bit

Hi Martin,

as you are using Windows 8.1 the manual determination of the operating system will sovle the issue.

First thing: eclipse.ini

It is located right next to the exclipse.exe.

Second: start with -clean.

Create a short cut for the eclipse.exe, open the properties of this short cut and add " -clean" behind the target of the short cut (adding a paramter to the eclipse executable). Afterwards start you Eclipse using the shortcut one time (after you have added the vmarg in the .ini file.

Hi Felix,

something did not work out as expected here and I dont know what caused it.

Yesterday when in HANA studio I went over Window->Open Perspective->Other  the option 'ABAP' was available. Today it is not there anymore. I tried to reinstall exactly as indicated above in my original post, but it failed with the log below.

What is going on here? This is chaos.

Your original request has been modified.

"EMF Data Binding" is already installed, so an update will be performed instead.

Cannot complete the install because of a conflicting dependency.

Hi Martin,

now it gets a bit confusing for me.

The error message still show HANA studio components of version 1.048.

Did you start the installation with a fresh location?

That's what I recommend now to have reproducable steps. Just extract the standard package you have downloaded already into a new folder and install the tools you need from the update site as described in the blog mentioned by Thomas.

Mixing installer/update site from the SMP with the one hosted on https://tools.hana.ondemand.com/ always leads to strang error messages.

Thanks for your support on this.

What do you mean "Did you start the installation with a fresh location?"?

If you are referring to the site where I selected the components for the install, yes I did.

Today I selected the location exactly as specified in the blog: 'http://tools.hana.ondemand.com/kepler'.

Yesterday I used 'http://download.eclipse.org/releases/kepler'

What do you mean with "extract the standard package you have downloaded already into a new folder"? Are you referring to the installtion file 'eclipse-standard-kepler-SR2-win32-x86_64'?

Exactly how do you recommend that I proceed?

1. extract standard-kepler-SR2-win32-x86_64 into a new folder to have a "fresh"/plain Eclipse

2. install tools from http://tools.hana.ondemand.com/kepler (see blog for details)

3. set -Dorg.osgi.framework.os.name=win32 and run with -clean one time (see note 2041195)

That's what I would try next. In case of issues please let us knowy which of the steps you are trying to execute.

These steps worked for me (for testing I have installed all tools offered).

I did as you suggested and up until including step 2 everything looked fine and I closed Eclipse.

I put a short-cut to 'eclipse.exe' on the desktop, added -clean at the end in the target and executed. Nothing happened!

Now I cannot open Eclipse again. I go to 'eclipse.exe' (same folder as 'hdbstudio.exe') and execute as Admin or simply double click. Nothing happens!

What do yuo suggest?

Problem solved! I was using the 'eclipse' icon under hdbstudio, but in reality eclipse is not really installed as a normal program and resides wherever it is extracted (which in my place was under download).
