Changing field labels

I need to change the description of three fields, VKBUR, VKGRP and BZIRK so that the terminolgy aligns iteself with our business processes.

I have used SE80 to modify the Data Elements descriptions, short, mid and long. I have registered the change through SAP.

The changes have been activated. Though the log reported that a number of tables could not be modified because the enhancement category for some obscure tables was missing. Most of the tables were adjusted.

Viewing transaction VA22 - Quotations the sales header screen has the correct new description for only one of the three fields! Why this should be one of three is a mystery.

I think that the structure DD04D is filled with the short, mid and long descriptions.

Any ideas?

Hi Nigel,

You can change field labels, in tx CMOD->Go to->Text Enhancements-> Keyword->Change.

Here you can enter the Data Element of the field you want to change the text, and the language. Also, you should look at the screen where the text field is. Because if the text has the attribute "Modify" to "F" (Fixed), you cannot modify this text.

Thanks

Warm Regards,

Mohammed Hussain.

Thanks for suggesting CMOD. When I went into there I could se that the field labels had stuck but the short description had not. When I changed this it made no diference toi the Quotation labels. Only one out of the three labels has stuck.

Hi Nigel,

If you change that will reflect every where in the system .

Well I transported the changes into UAT. The manager decided it was fine so it is now in Production. Yet there are screenms with the changes and screens without. I have pointed out one screen where only one of the three field labels has stuck.

No doubt there will be complaints soon, and I will have to look at how to change the individual screens.

Hi Nigel,

Text enhancments for data elements can be done through SMOD/CMOD. This will help you to revert to the original ones if required in near future.

Please go to SMOD and look for the option for TEXT enhancement in the menu.

Thanks

Although I had changed the field labels the new names were not appearing on the CO-PA reports. i discovered that I needed to re-activate the Operating Concern. Transaction KEA0, tab environment. For SAP query I had to create a copy the infoset SQ02 using the new tables and rebuild the SAP Query SQ01 on the new infoset. hope this helps people in the future.
