Calling External Java Program from SAP

Hi,

Will sap be able to call an external java program.

The scenario is we need to pass on the selection parameters to run a java program (report) in legacy system. Then we wait for the output from the legacy system in the form of XML file and take this XML , convert or translate the contents into internal table and take for further processing.

Is this possible? if yes, then how?
