BB in NL postal code (Netherlands)

What does BB stand for in NL postal code? The code mask for Netherlands postal code is 'NNNN BB   '. Why is it BB and not AA? In newer releases AA is commented and now it is NNNN BB instead of NNNN AA (A = alphabet, N = number). Please respond if you have any idea about it. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

The Dutch postcode is build up from 4 numbers (first number > 0) with two letters (any letter)

e,g. 3056 XC  or 1125 AB or 1000 AA.

Thanks Peter. But my question is that AA also stands for alphabets and for all other countries AA or NN is used. Only for Netherlands, it is BB. AA is commented and it is written as BB. So I am trying to find out why BB if it means the same thing.

To clear the NNNN BB once and for all: BB stands for the range "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ&". The "&" value is used for un-build streets. During the building phase, new streets get only the 4 digit part of a postcode assigned. To be able to load them into the regional structure, they get the temporary value "&&".
