ArchiveLink: Multiple PC file formats per doc type?

We have configured ArchiveLink 4.5 to store a single file format (MS-Word) for a single doc type (OAC2). We assigned DOC to our doc type. This works fine. We would like to be able to store more than one file format (DOC, XLS, PDF, etc) per doc type. We have multiple groups who want security around their document attachments. We are using the doc type to accomplish the security. Each group would like to attach multiple file types.

It appears the mime type associated with the configured doc type (DOC) is always assigned to the document that is stored. It doesn't query the document or filename to get the extension. Therefore, we can store an XLS file but when we try to open it, it tries to open the XLS file using Word which doesn't work.

Has anybody tried this or have any suggestions? We looked at using BDS but there is no security at the doc type level. We couldn't segregate access to the documents. SAP acknowledged they don't have security to that level for BDS documents.

As a work around, on the display side, we configured OAA3 to call explorer.exe for viewing. This does interrogate the file and will display DOC and XLS OK even though the mime type may not be right. However, it doesn't display the PDF.

Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,

Randy

Leave the doc type blank. This works in ECC 6.0.
