Even I'm not much sure about the configuration part that is required to set up archivelink b/w SAP and the storage system. This is taken care off by the basis team basically.
Archivelink setup can be done using the transaction codes OAA1, OAC0, OAC2, OAC3 and OAM1.
Incoming and outgoing documents are generally archived by the archivelink.
For data archiving, we need to first configure our SAP system with the storage system using archivelink interface and this set up could be done through different storage media such as JukeBox, HSM, Tape, harddisks etc.
We need to sit with the basis team to understand how the initial configurations are done for creating a link b/w these two systems.
Archivelink will help in managing the documents, archive files, attachments of incoming and outgoing mails from SAP Office, spool lists, ABAP reports, or DMS documents into third party storage system with out hampering any business transaction.
Archivlink place a major role in reducing stress on SAP database by mapping the documents into file directories or storage system.
Customizing of Archivelink differs based on the application area. So please specify what application area you are looking.
