ALV debug/ ALV layout setup

Dear sirs,

I need your expertise. I would like to build a reporting tool which will use MS Excel, OLE, transaction OAOR (to store excel templates for output) and will let the user design the layout of the reports/prints himself (set sums, hide columns, move columns etc.). (Maybe I can use this with Adobe forms too in the next phase).

To let the user create this (Excel) layout I would have to create some customizing and front-end to let the user click all that himself. That would be a lot of work.

So I think I can use the ALV layout definition. I would get the definition tool for free. But I need to access the data from the definition. So... here is the question: can anybody provide the information about any tables where I can find this definition data? Or any function module to read this?
