Hi friends,
I have few question regarding ABAP in general.
Whether the creation of adapters or modifying the existing one in XI can be done through ABAP in future.
It seems SAP is moving towards java direction now..
I am seeing ABAP has less precendence over java in Netweaver stack.
What is future of ABAP?
Is there any plan for SAP to make ABAP as powerful as J2ee.
Since ABAP is also platform independent as java then why SAP is making all such new technologies based on java.
Is it necessary for ABAP developers to learn Java side as well?
Kindly clarify
Regards,
Abdul

Hi,
It is not like that ABAP is not at all used, but you should have knowledge of both JAVA and ABAP.

Hi Abdul Hakim
SAP is increasing the integration between its Web Application Server and the Java programming language, expanding development options for developers now using SAP's proprietary Advanced Business Application Programming language.
The combination of ABAP and Java in the new application server software version opens up a new developer pool for SAP and companies that develop SAP components.
And this is not neccasary to learn JAVA for a ABAP consulatant,But it is extra knowledge for you that can be helpful, mainly if you working with NETWEAVER, in which knowledge of JAVA is required.

when we create a routine, we are asked an access key. i want to know whether creating a routine is in any way altering a standard SAP thing. does this affect anything else?

Since it is Standard code, it will affect .
we don't know the effect.
but there are some user exits to create your own routines.
thanks

Hi Abdul,
Basic knowledge of JAVA will do....
An ABAPer who has some knowledge in JAVA will have a bright future.
In future a JAVA programmer can code in SAP.
In Netweaver all the components need knowledge in ABAP as well in JAVA too.

in a lighter vein.. if ABAP WebDynpro is a big hit(???), you need not worry about JAVA at all..
