ABAP Help not working

Former Member

Hi,

from time to time, my ABAP help stops working. Normally, when you press F1 on a key word, the abap help shows up, but I just get a white view.

When I create a new workspace, the help shows up again, so I think this has to do something with corrupt settings in the workspace.

Does anyone know, how to fix the workspace settings, so I don't have to create a new one (and loose all my settings)?

Hi,

thank you, but the help in the SE80 is working all the time. It's just eclipse.

Hello Mr. Henn

Actually the help view should never show just a pure white view and there should not be settings, which cause this problem.

Could you please provide more information, which allow to investigate the problem?

  • Is the view pure white or is there any message shown in the view (e.g. ‘Loading content…’)?
  • Does the error log view contain a message related to the view?
  • Did you try to just restart Eclipse with your old workspace instead of creating a new workspace (which also restarts Eclipse) ?
  • Could you reproduce the problem the following way and provide the resulting support-information?
    • Turn on the tracing for the ABAP help view:
      • Trace level: Info
      • Trace location:
Expand the tree to find it:
ABAP Development Tools > Tools Infrastructure > UI
        > 'Selection based View – com.sap.adt.tools.core.ui.internal.infoview’
    • Turn on the ABAP communication log:
Window > Show view > ABAP communication log,
in this view: button 'start logging'
    • Then reproduce the problem

    • and export the support-information.
      Help > Collect Support Information...

Kind Regards,
Ulrike Hellbrück, Abap in Eclipse development team

Hi,

the problem still exists after a restart of eclipse. Only creating a new workspace solved the problem.

Here is a screenshot of my eclipse with the empty help view on the lower left corner and the trace view.

Please tell me, where I can upload my trace file.

EDIT: The ABAP Communication log stays empty

Hi David

The trace information is contained in the support.zip, also the NPE from error log including the respective stack trace can be found there. Could you please proceed the way I have described above and provide the support.zip-file? (In Help > Collect Support Information...you decide about the location of the support.zip-file)

Kind Regards, Uli

Hi,

here is the support.zip file

EDIT: Sorry SCN does not allow .zip files.

Where should I upload it instead?

Hi David,

could you open an OSS ticket? I guess this would be the easiest way.
