Hi Umair,

I am not sure what you meant by "learning abap on my own". Are you reading a book or are you actually working on computer?

If you are working on a computer, are you working by logging into SAP or some simulated training course?

For compiling and executing ABAP programs, you need to log into SAP environment. I don't think there is any other way of independently compiling your code. There is a mini-SAP version available which you can install and test your programs.

Hope this helps,

Srinivas

Hi,

If you can, purchase the famous book titled ABAP Objects. It comes with a runtime environment and samples that assist you in learning ABAP.

Let us know if there are any other queries.

Hi I have recently installed the miniSAP system but after I log on to it every time I try to create a program or edit in ABAP editor it says- No changes allowed to SAP system objects.

How can I solve this

Just type in the transaction as SE38 in command window this take u a seperate screen where in u will enter a program name with "Z"/"Y" with radio button selected as Source Code in order to compile and activate the program it should be "CtrlF2" And activate "CtrlF3"

Hello Umair,

compiler and editor are embedded into the R/3 system and thus not available seperately.

But the book 'ABAP Objects ISBN: 0201750805' contains a demo system for learning.

Best Regards

Hi Umair,

<b>a stand alone abap editor exist</b>.

You can buy it at SAPShop and the cost is 29 Euro.

The product is the <b>Mini Web AS 6.20 ABAP Engine 3 (English)</b> and it is a mini SAP Web Application Server system. In this system you can find the abap editor and moreover the BSP editor, the class editor and everything is part of the ABAP Workbench.

The link is:

http://www.sap.com/company/shop/index.aspx

then you go to knowledge shop and then in the right menu select <i>General->SAP NetWeaver->WAS->Was 6.20</i>.

Hi again and... remember me when you assign reward points!

ciao

SAPDB is included in the CD, don't worry.

Installing SAPDB is intergrated part of the installation.
