Abap Editor Writing Code Issue

Former Member

Hi there,

I am completely new to ABAP and have encountered the following issue:

- when trying to edit already written code, the system overwrites my already existing code instead of just moving it to the right and letting me introduce new code in the line.

Is there some sort of setting I need to change? Please let me know, I would really appreciate any type of help.

Thank you!

Hello Bianca M,

I suppose there must be something wrong with your Key-Board, Press insert Button once and try typing again.

Hi,

It is possible that you have an inactive version of your code. Activate the code and then try to edit.

Are you sure? Inactive code is just another version, I've never seen it behave in any different way in ABAP Editor. Hm...

Hi,

Try writing some lines in other editors apart from ABAP editor just for a confirmation that there is no such settings in ABAP editor.

Cheers,

Prasanna CD.

There is not enough information in the question to answer it, so in addition to the existing guesses, I can only offer a few more.

1. It seems that you've simply pushed the Insert key (or similar, not sure what device/keyboard you're using). It toggles between the text insert and overwrite mode. In SAP GUI, you should see a tiny INS/OVR indicator in the bottom right corner.

2. If you're doing a modification using Modification Assistant, it can sometimes work mysterious ways.

Technically could be 1001 odd reason. When asking such questions it'd be helpful to provide more information, such as what IDE are you using and which code is being changed exactly.

Well, I guess you should press keyboard INSERT to turn off that behavior (for default, I think, the overwrite code is turned on and you will see a black square flicked instead of a control...sorry I don't know how to descript it).
