ABAP/Eclipse tools connection to non-development environments?

Is it standard practice to allow connection from the Eclipse tools to non-development systems? (Quality Assurance or even Production?)

I could see benefit to code compares, SQL Console, and other performance tools... but was curious if this is recommended?  Is there any SAP provided literature on this topic I could present my basis team?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

we are discussing about this topic also.

One of the show-stopping issues to use Eclipse also in a production environment, is some missing security.

Access to tables that are protected in the GUI by S_TABU, are visible in the data preview and the SQL-console.

I posted this remark earlier on SDN http://scn.sap.com/message/15834733 . Eclipse seems to be considered as a pure development tool. Not that I/we agree ...

Regards.
