search help is used to get the specified values .There are two types of search helps.

1>elementary

2>collective

Hi Prema,

Search help is the important functionality of SAP , thereby user can get the relevant values for a filed in selection.

Example:

For material number, MARA is the master table and hence wherever material number is used, it should be available in MARA else it would be inconsistent.

Instead of checking the material number in all the places, where it is used , you can make use of search help i.e on pressing F4 all the entries will be visible.

Search help types:

1.Elementary - On pressing F4 ,search option will be based only on MTART

2.Collective  - Several elementary search helps (Based on MATNR, Based on MTART, BASED on MATKL) are collectively used with mulitple tabs.

If Wont to create search help goto SE11 tocde

    select search help radio button and click on create button .

       if u select elementry search help 

  in selection method (Enter ur table name) and below provide parameter after save&Activate .

Collective search help means Combination of elementry search helps

        after cretae collective search help ..select include search help tab enter ur elementry search help name .

  after save&Activate..

The user can display the list of all possible input values for a screen field with the input help.This search help only has to be assigned to the screen fields in which they should be available.

There are two types of search help:

• Elementary search helps describe a search path. The elementary search help must define where the data of the hit list should be read from (selection method), how the exchange of values between the screen template and selection method is implemented (interface of the search help) and how the online input help should be defined (online behavior of the search help).

• Collective search helps combine several elementary search helps. A collective search help thus can offer several alternative search paths.

Dear Friend,

In simple terms you must break the two words and try to understand it: SEARCH + HELP.

It is of two types:

Elementary

Collective

These are used in order to provide a suitable value, you will get a detailed list of values when you press F4 key in the field column.

Ex- when you navigate to T Code VA03 Sales Order Display if you press you will get the detailed value list this is nothing but search help.

Simple search help is the one which provides you all the relevant values without containing any additional Tab it is known as Elementary Search Help.

But when you get to see many Tabs when you press F4 key based on Sales Org, Sales Division , Sales document type as in the above case it is called Collective Search Help.
