In a Unicode environment, (no setting changed in SAPGUI codepage) When I run a program, which has double byte characterset in the output, it displays fine on the report. When I download to Excel using FM GUI_DOWNLOAD, I do not see Double byte characters at all. Instead I see some # characters. Any solution to get the double byte characters in Excel using GUI_DOWNLOAD?
Also can anyone let me know what is the SAP representation number (like 1100, 1200 etc) for UTF-8?
Thanks
Cheers

Table TCP00A gives you the info about all code pages and their internal SAP representation. UTF-8 is 4110 or 4310.

Excel download through GUI_DOWNLOAD will not work.Try .csv or .txt files.

@Trond, I figured out the codes, soon after I posted this. But none of these work (4110, 4103, 4310.. etc). I even tried Chinese code pages (6384 I guess) still no luck. I might raise an OSS message to SAP about this.
@ Madhu, The function module is @ EC 6.0 Unicode system so by default, the Unicode active is checked for function group.

Hi,
at our systems everything works fine (Thai, Chinese... even Urdu).
check SAPLOGON settings (attributes, others, standard codepage). Use "codepage = space" at funtion call.
If it still doesnt work your basis people might help.
Kind regards,
HP

Hello Kiran,
Could you please explain how it is being resolved?
I have a similar kind of issue. I have to upload data from file which might contains double byte characters as well. Whenever read statement encounters, I get a run-time error. I have now resolved the run-time error.
however I want to upload the data into sap as it is mentioned in the file. Please guide me how to do this.
Thanks for any help.
Regards
Srini

Sorry for VERY late reply. You know about encoding methods. Use the one which applies to your Unicode system. Set the byte order mark. However SAP does not support old file (WK1) formats (I know!). But it should work for latest formats.
