How to open .msg file from Archivelink?

Former Member

Hi All,

As a part of requirement, we have uploaded a ".msg" file to archivelink repository. But while retrieving the file, it is not opening in the outlook application directly. Popup is coming up to save the file.

In the standard SAP configuration transaction for MIME types, the mime is "application/vnd.ms-outlook". Using outlook from office 365 and outlook application.

Uploaded image of the popup to save the file.

Could suggest idea/tip and settings if any to open the .msg directly in the outlook while retrieving the file to view.

Thanks,

Regards,

Ramesh

I think it's more a problem with the configuration of each laptop than a SAP configuration.

I think the popup is one which corresponds to the download of a file via HTTP (via your web browser), whose file type or contents sniffing cannot associate the file to an application.

The solution may depend on what web-browsing software you use. For the old IE, I remember that depending on the MIME type in the header of the HTTP response (both Content-Type and Content-Disposition), IE was able or not to find the right application via the Registry.

I'm not sure if the actual MIME type in the HTTP response is really application/vnd.ms-outlook. You may verify it by viewing the HTTP response via the developer tools of your browser (maybe it's not so obvious to trace when the request is started from SAP).

You may obtain more information here:

Hi Sandra,

The OS used in the laptop is Windows 10.

Does this have an impact on viewing the document via the application?.

Added the mimetype vnd.ms-outlook in the registry. Still could not view the file directly as the outlook did not start.

Ramesh

Don't know.

What MIME type is defined in the HTTP response? Moreover, the IE logic is not only based on the MIME type.

By the way, what web browser is used, IE? What version? Other web browsers may work differently.

Agree with Sandra. Could be the application type mentioned in the MIME, doe not correspond to the file type.

Can you try debugging, the object with the Std function module, ARCHIVOBJECT_DISPLAY

I have archived Excel files and Pdf documents into archive link systems

Have also run OAAD to simulate the transaction based upload

Debugging with the Function module helps, to know, why the display is not working. Hope this helps
