Hello,
I have two questions about heterogeneous system copy.
First, is it necessary to open the SAP instances while exporting the source system?
Second, while installing the source system should i do the initial setup together with the existing export file or should the export file be implemented after completing the initial setup?
Best regards.
Hi Melih.
Please take a look at this SAP Note, and all the notes mentioned at the end.

You can also take a look at this, for your after system copy steps.

Thank you both for your responses,
There is one thing is not clear for me that i could not perceive the right way from your answers.
For the import prosses, i think there is two scenario,
1. scenario: make an initial ERP setup without export file. After then import the export file to the initial setup.
2. scenario: make an ERP setup with export file ant the beginning.
which scenario have to be performed?
Best regards.

Hi...what do you mean by "export file"? When talking about heterogeneous system copy the export comprises the whole database content...any ERP setup done in the target system before the DB import would be overwritten by that import....
1. db export source system
2. install target system using SWPM/SAPInst
3. use exported database as db import
4. db import target system
5. post activities (such as any setup)

Hi Melih,
- While exporting the system , SWPM will ask you stop the SAP System only and your database will be up.
- If you import the dump to build the system , you have to follow few post install activities steps.
such as SGEN , deleting the queues from SMQ1 , SMQ2 and SM58, Install the license, deleting the inconsistency in SP12, RFC as all the information get imported to the system is of sourcesystem.

a) SAP Instances need to be shut down while exporting the database (db is up)!
b) The export dump will overwirte all the data in the target system n(if there is any), so all post copy acions need to be done after the import of the dump was succesful!
