Looking for a method to set the valid-to dates on selected records in MDG in mass.

MDG Experts,

We have a need to initial load some master data into our MDG hub that has valid-from AND valid-to dates in the past. Based on edition processing we can only set the valid-from date when we create data in MDG. The valid-to date by default becomes 12/31/9999. We have figured out that if we delete (via the single processing UI) these records in a second edition that starts at a later date than the initial load edition (but still in the past), the system will set the valid-to dates the way we want. However, doing this one record at a time will not be feasible for us during the cut over phase because we will have thousands of records like this. We need a way to MASS delimit records in MDG without creating new current time slices. We have looked into mass change and file upload but neither appears to be able to perform the delete function that is included in the single processing UI. We thought of some sort of direct update program, but that is a little scary. Does anyone have any ideas?

Kind Regards,

Hi Mark,

In MDG-F, it is not possible or advisable to change the Validity dates using any external report/method. What you have already experienced ( Deleting the Object in next time slice ) is the only valid process for setting the end date as required.

It surely is a bummer that SAP has not provided Mass delete process but what you can try is to get any abap resource from your team to understand how the USMD_OBS_TCK flag is set when we run the single process for deleting. Based on that maybe you can come up with something....I will try to see if i can get any more information on that.

It is just a joke but maybe you can run mass change scenario, get it approved and then run a custom report to mark the flag manually if nothing works 😄

Regards

Abdul
