You can find a 15 minutes video ( Use the Metadata Management module ) in the SAP Information Steward Product Tutorials section on the SCN ( Learning Information Steward ) that is explaining how easy it is to set up a new Metadata Integrator for your BOE/BIP environment (and schedule the execution, if you want to).
This is in general all you are doing as a setup process.
Then it depends on the size and amount of all the objects that you have within the BOE/BIP, as Information Steward is reading the metadata information from the BOE/BIP and string the information in its own internal repository, automatically relating the information to get the data lineage and impact analysis links ready for the users to look into the metadata relationships.
Typically the users within IS are either using the Metadata Directory to search for objects and see their relationships or with the integration of all the data quality assessment and monitoring components, they review the DQ scorecards and dashboards on the data and then can view directly within the failed data, where the data is coming from (root cause analysis) or where in the reports the bad data form the warehouse is used (DQ issue impact).
