Migrating historical data in S/4

Hi,

I am working in the procurement space of a large company that has now embarked on the S/4HANA journey (S/4HANA on premise). We have been advised to only bring open purchase orders over to S/4 and archive all closed purchase orders. However, we have not been informed so much about what that actually means and there is not too much information about it on the internet either. We are wondering, how will procurement professionals access closed PO's? We understand that they will be archived, but would they need a separate transaction/application to look at them? Also, we would like to make increasingly use of machine learning/artificial intelligence, don't we need data in order to train the models? Does this work also if the data is stored in the archive? In general, how is data from the archive accessed? As long as data is still easily accessible, there would be no problem in bringing over only open PO's.

Thank you for clarifying!

Best regards

Hi Max,

Actually, it's not possible to migrate the closed transactional data (including closed purchase orders) to S/4HANA.

You can check the link below, and you can see only open purchase orders are supported:

https://help.sap.com/S4_OP_MO

https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_S4HANA_ON-PREMISE/d3a3eb7caa1842858bf0372e17ad3909/8c3fa8816fcc4c68912...

The closed purchase orders from legacy system will have to be archived, or stored in some SAP/third party warehouse systems.

Thanks

Vincent
