Can DFS integrate as KM File system Repository?

We are implementing DFS (Distributed File System) and want to integrate it as a file system repository in KM content management. Has anyone done this before? If so, does anyone have instructions, considerations, recommendations on this matter?

Thanks ahead

Hi vicky,

Integrating file system repository is very easy process.

The step by step procedure is described in the help documentation.

Just u need to create a File system repository in the Repository manager

Thank you for the response, however, my question was not how not how to do it, niether was it related to normal file system repositories. What I want to know, is whether a distributed file system (DFS) can be integrated just like a normal file system. The problem with distributed file systems is that they use a namespace and not a DNS alias. I would like to try this as it would help resolve a lot of network traffic issues accross a WAN evironment.

Does anyone know if this can be done?

Thanks

Hi Vicky,

I've connected KM to a Microsoft based DFS without a problem. Just point the FS or FSDB repository to the root of the DFS (or any path below it if you want) and it acts as a regular file system. The best approach to get the right systems names and DNS aliasess is to use the MMC snap-ip for DFS to determine the real hostname and path.

I was unable to connect to a Novell DFS.

Hi Marcel

Thanks. Did you integrate this with TREX and in terms of network traffic, does the doucment retrieval work as expected? Meaning that once searched for, did the location it was retrieved from match the closest FS location to the user?

Thanks

Hi, good question. Honestly, I do not know. The performance is adequate, but I cannot be sure which server is used when.....

We've indexed some resources within the DFS root, but of course the TREX will use the repository as the starting point. Therefore it is hard to really see which DFS server node is really accessed but my guess (read hope) is that DFS does a proper load balancing.
