This was an ASUG webcast from last week with SAP's klaus-peter.sauer4 ; thanks to ingo.hilgefort for setting this up.

DWC=Data Warehouse Cloud
Figure 2: Source: SAP
Data silos
Not wait for a year for analytics
DWC help mitigate challenges
Figure 3: Source: SAP
Data Warehouse Cloud is a software as a service cloud solution
Bring IT and business together, working on same platform
Figure 4: Source: SAP
Where DWC fits in broader context
DWC is one of the core software services on SAP Business Technology Platform
Figure 5: Source: SAP
Components of DWC
Connectivity, out of the box
Open API, connect JDBC or OBDC, SQL based tooling to provide data to DWC
Spaces, data sharing, build models in spaces
Spaces provide possibility to isolate data, think of schemas if from database world
Data Layer -where modeling happens, with tables, views and build semantics on top of it
For more semantics, have a business layer, OLAP functionality, joins
Right side, see business content, pre-configured content from SAP
Figure 6: Source: SAP
Blue box in middle, HANA Cloud, where build DWC
Left: integration area of manage, operate, and integrate
Figure 7: Source: SAP
Multiple options to integrate data from external systems
One way is remote tables - data persists in source system and only at run time you select data - virtual access
If persist data in DWC - switch in data integration monitor; can take a snapshot, or use real time replication
This happens without changing the data model
Classical data integration - component called data flow, typical ETL data flow
Can use external tools such as Data Intelligence
270 SAP open connectors available
Figure 8 : Source: SAP
Data source overview - left side, see available connections
Provide generic JDBC connector
Generic Odata connection available
Left shows connectivity to hyperscalers including data lakes
Yellow are partner solutions
Right shows the planned data sources, including SAP cloud based solutions
Figure 9: Source: SAP
Integrating existing SAP on premise systems
Various options to connect
Depends on software version and database
If database is on HANA, get an additional option to use external HANA views
Yellow on right, using BW model transfer option with BW/4HANA
Figure 10: Source: SAP
Area for configuration in cloud systems
Can create roles, users, pre-delivered roles
Built in row level security, to distinguish who can see what and what level
If you have multi system landscape, can transport between systems
Figure 11: Source: SAP
Spaces, think of in a way schemas
Isolated virtual environments
Slide shows as departmental, line of business, division of spaces
By default they are isolated, only members of spaces can see
Make them available to others to foster collaboration
Figure 12: Source: SAP
More technical description of spaces
Figure 13: Source: SAP
On one slide, low code, no code built in and on the right, the IT professional (coding, SQL)
Figure 14: Source: SAP
Data Layer - classical modeling, can persist if necessary
Can have more semantics added to the data sets
Figure 15 Source: SAP
Can connect via API, 3rd party API
Business content, provide different packages, not just from SAP, also from partners
Figure 16: Source: SAP
Variety of partner packages

Q&A:
Q: Where are the best practice documents?
A: on the SAP Data Warehouse Community
Q: Analysis authorizations - can they be used in DWC?
A: Can connect ADSO today in DWC
Analysis authorization - today not possible, looking for future use
