Material Master Nomenclature

We have a  requirement where in the legacy system the material code is for 12 digits, the breakup of the Material code is first 2 digits represents the Main Group of the material, the next 2 Digits represents the Sub Group of the Material, the next 2 Digits represents the Sub-Sub Group of the Material and the next 2 Digits represents the category code of the material and the last four digits are the running numbers.

For Example - 

Main Group - 91 (IT materials)

Sub Group - 23 ( Hardware)

Sub Sub Group - 41 (Monitors)

Category code - 51 ( 17 inch)

Hence Material code is - 91234151 0001 (17 inch Dell Monitor)

How do we map this material’s nomenclature into SAP’s Material Master without product hierarchy? User wants to see a list of materials based upon either of Main Group, Sub group, Sub Sub group, Category Code.

It is basically a design change, now you need to play around with Material Type and Material Group, Main Category differentiate by Material type, and then Sub Category by Material Group.

For rest of the information you can use material description and for further categorization use Characteristics.
