Earlier this month I had the opportunity to interview Eric van Rossum, SAP’s Chief Marketing Officer for Cloud ERP. You can watch the video of our discussion and read the highlights below, where you’ll also find related learning materials. Enjoy!

Eric van Rossum is the Chief Marketing Officer for Cloud ERP at SAP, overseeing product marketing for the company's cloud ERP portfolio. He serves as the strategic bridge between product development and customer acquisition, ensuring product messaging and positioning are attuned to customer needs, and facilitating the successful launch and adoption of products in the market. Eric has been with SAP for 24 years and brings a wealth of experience across various functions including consulting, sales, corporate strategy, and support.

To help me summarize the content of the interview, I've used SAP Generative AI Hub :-). Check here what it ays are the highlights of our conversation:

  • SAP has two cloud ERP offerings: RISE with SAP and GROW with SAP
  • RISE with SAP is targeted toward SAP’s installed-base customers, providing them a path to cloud ERP at their pace.
  • GROW with SAP is targeted toward net new customers to SAP, and installed base customers who want to take a greenfield approach to cloud ERP.
  • SAP is focusing on making ERP an enabler for business model changes, driving sustainability, and improving efficiency, as these are the key customer needs currently in the market.
  • With RISE and GROW, customers should be able to update their software regularly, making them innovation-ready and efficient, especially with the increasing prevalence of AI.
  • Eric believes the shift to the cloud also requires a paradigm shift within companies, citing an example of a customer who moved towards a standardized system and adopted SAP's out-of-the-box solutions.
  • One of the significant hurdles for customers adopting cloud ERP is the organizational readiness to standardize their processes, which requires a significant cultural shift.
  • Moving ERP to the cloud is seen as risky by some companies due to the critical role ERP systems play in company operations. They need strategies to transition without disrupting their business.
  • Eric is interested in a continued dialogue with the SAP Community, to hear from end users and improve SAP’s offerings to meet their needs better.
