Upgrade CRM 4.0 to 7.0 - SAP-GUI vs WEB-UI

We will start in a few month a project to upgrade our CRM 4.0 to 7.0.

Today we use SAP standard for business partners, transactions like activities, middleware, IPC and a lot of customer development with huge business logic.

1. Do we have to migrate our whole SAP-GUI developement to WEB-UI ?

2. I have heard that some SAP-GUIs (i.e. business partner) are not longer supported, only in WEB-UI ?

Hi Andre,

SAP CRM7.0 is on new technology, all the screens are on "BSP Application".

SAP recommends to use New CRM WebUI for all the master data and transaction data activities in CRM7.0.

However, configuration activities can be done through the transaction SPRO in SAPGUI like before.

Please go through the below link for more information about CRM7.0:

http://www.sap.com/germany/solutions/business-suite/crm/SAP_CRM7_Highlights.pdf

Also you can refer the following PDF about the new WebClient UI:

Hope this helps!

Chethan

Hello André,

we use CRM70 already in production.

Before we used CRM50.

It is like this:

The transactions for business like CRMD_ORDER or BP or others are no longer available over the menu and no longer supported by SAP. But if you know the transaction code it is still possible to use this. I use for example CRMD_ORDER very often as a system administrator because the webclient UI does not give enough information to analyse issues.

Our users mostly working only in webclient UI without SAP GUI transactions.

We have some exceptions. For example the maintenance of IBASE we launch with the transaction launcher in the webclient UI because the BSP for this is very bad from a usability point of view.

To you developments. It´s a shame but i think you have to do the most of it ones again in webclient UI.

It was in our upgrade project the case that most of CRM50 UI developments have to be done ones again.

Business logic development depends: Middleware for example was no issue. BP development was an issue.

The CRM Webclient UI is easier for the users but not for administrators. Thats my impression on it.

Best regards

Hi Manfred,

thank you for the informations.

So we can still use all trx codes like we use it today with CRM 4.0 (not in the menu and no further SAP support).

Another question:

1. We have a self-developed application in SAP-GUI. There we use a lot of standard function modules but the UI is completly selfmade. So I understand that this application normaly has to work in CRM 7.0 too.

2. Some other applications are selfmade but use standard function like BDT for business partners. There we will have some problems because there is no longer support. But I guess the standard objects like components of BP-GUI are not deleted and can still be used in our BDT logic.

Dear ManniF,

at the moment we are working on upgrading CRM40 to CRM70.

I refer to your sentence "Our users mostly working only in webclient UI without SAP GUI transactions.

We have some exceptions. For example the maintenance of IBASE we launch with the transaction launcher in the webclient UI because the BSP for this is very bad from a usability point of view."

You mentioned that the BSP for IBASE maintenance is very bad from the usability point of view.

Please tell me more about the gaps.

We are using the IBASE in a field service scenario to store buildings (IBASE) and our products (components) on site. Components are linked to IObjects.

In CRM40 we can see the IBASE with the component tree (left screen area) and component together with IObject on the right sreen area.

In CRM70 it is only possible to show the IBASE with the component tree (left or top screen area) and the component data. But to see the IObject data you need to go to another BSP. We are in discussion with the product management.

Do you have a similiar issue?

Thanks in advance.

Hello André,

yes we have exactly the same issue.

You need to go to a different view to see the component data (iobject in our case).

Innovate Software GmbH offers a solution named "SAP GUI for CRM Webclient UI".

We have implemented that solution. Now are able to launch SAP GUI transactions directly in the L-shape of CRM webclient UI. It doesn´t matter from what system the SAP GUI transaction are comming. Parameters can be used to open the correct Object in SAP GUI.

This solution is using the real SAP GUI not ITS transaction launcher.

This is better from performance, functionality and usability.

I think it is good that you are in contact with SAP regarding this IBASE UI issue.

If you need support please let me know.

Best regards
