Swap and memory configuration on AIX 5.3 Oracle 9.2

Hi

I have some doubts about how to configuring the swap and memory in the next configuration: I have a IBM server with AIX 5.3 O.S. with Oracle 9.2 with 36GM RAM and 35GB for SWAP. We want to have the DES and QUA system on the same server. We reserved 5GB of RAM and 5GB of SWAP for the O.S.

I do not if the next configuration is the right:

For the DES system we manage the 15GB of RAM and 15GB for SWAP

Central Instance DB Instance

7.5GB 7.5GB

For the QUA system we manage the 15GB of RAM and 15GB for SWAP

Central Instance DB Instance

7.5GB 7.5GB

We think that is it according with the phases of the installation of the R/3.

Thanks

Hi Reynaldo,

I understand that this is a fresh installation and if so , during installation you can allocate memory(thru input parameters for the insatllation) for CI and DI .

SWAP space you can have it in betwwen 1.5 * RAM to 3* RAM.

You can check this in the corresponding installtion guide.

You can have different memory config for both the servers i.e. you may want to have more memory for DEV than QUA depending on the load(no of users etc).

so likewise you can have memory allocation to both instances (60% for CI -40% for DB). and further calculate swap space by using above formula (refer Guide).

Hope this is useful

Hi Reynaldo,

You can distribute the Memory as follows:

For the DES system we manage the 15GB of RAM and 22.5 GB - 30 GB SWAP

Central Instance DB Instance

9 GB 6 GB

For the QUA system we manage the 15GB of RAM and 22.5 - 30 GB for SWAP

Central Instance DB Instance

9 GB 6GB.

Hope this works for you.

Hi Umesh

Thanks for the help.

We understand that for the SWAP memory we need to put 30GB for every instance, is that correct ?

Did you know the paramaters that we need to change with your recomendation ? In both cases RAM and SWAP.
