Powerbuilder 12.5 - Server based licensing - can java be removed from license server

Powerbuilder version 12.5 onpremise- we have server based licensing. If Java 8 Update 202, and Java SE Development Kit 8 update 202 are removed from the license server, will Powerbuilder and Powerbuilder licensing still work? Is Java required on the license server for the server based Powerbuilder 12.5 licensing to work?

Yes, PowerBuilder and PowerBuilder licensing will still work if Java 8 Update 202, and Java SE Development Kit 8 update 202 are removed from the license server. Java is not required on the license server for server-based PowerBuilder 12.5 licensing to work.

The license server uses a proprietary protocol to communicate with PowerBuilder clients. This protocol does not require Java. The only requirement for the license server is that it has access to the license files.

If you remove Java from the license server, you may see a warning message when you start PowerBuilder. However, you can ignore this message and PowerBuilder will still work.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind:

  • If you are using a third-party licensing solution, you may need to check with the vendor to see if Java is required.
  • If you are using a clustered license server, you will need to remove Java from all of the nodes in the cluster.
