“SAP has released SAP HANA Database 2.0 for SAP Kernel 7.49 64-Bit unicode and higher for certain operating system platforms. Therefore, SAP products that use these kernel versions, and are still in SAP Extended Maintenance after 2016 will be operated on SAP HANA Database 2.0.”

Above statement is from Note 2420699 - Release of SAP HANA Database 2.0 for older SAP Versions. Since Kernel version 7.49 is download compatible to SAP NetWeaver 7.4, hence, can we assume below products are eligible to run on SAP HANA Database 2.0, with minimum version SPS0 Revision 001?

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.5

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.5 Enhancement Package 1

  • SAP S/4HANA 1610 Feature Pack Stack 01

  • SAP BW/4HANA  1.0

  • SAP Netweaver 7.4(*)

  • Enhancement Package 7 for SAP ERP 6.0(*)

  • Enhancement Package 8 for SAP ERP 6.0(*)

  • Enhancement Package 3 for SAP CRM 7(*)

  • Enhancement Package 4 for SAP CRM 7(*)

  • Enhancement Package 3 for SAP SRM 7(*)

  • Enhancement Package 4 for SAP SRM 7(*)

So far, not every Product version above are updated in PAM, except for below:

SAP Netweaver 7.5:

NW AS ABAP 7.51 INNOVATION PKG:

SAP BW/4HANA 1.0:

(*)For products version not shown in PAM and not stated in any sap note officially, it means operate those Product Versions on HANA 2.0 are not supported at the moment but however are allowed to run them on HANA 2.0 temporarily during upgrade to SAP NW 7.5 or higher.

Hi,
we're evaluating to migrate our SAP ERP 6.0 EHP5 + MS SQL 2012 to SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 + HANA: since we would like to adopt the latest HANA 2.0, we need to know when EHP8 FOR SAP ERP 6.0 will be supported on HANA 2.0.

Checking the Product Availability Matrix, so far HANA 2.0 support "SAP NETWEAVER 7.5" ("Application Server ABAP") but apparently right now "EHP8 FOR SAP ERP 6.0" ("Central Appliactions") supports only HANA 1.0 as Database Platform (see https://apps.support.sap.com/sap/support/pam?hash=pvnr%3D73555000100900000247%26pt%3Dg%257Cd).
Do you have any visibility (a date) on the support of EHP8 FOR SAP ERP 6.0 on SAP HANA 2.0? Maybe with SPS 6 of EHP8 FOR SAP ERP 6.0 (planned for week 18), HANA 2.0 will be supported?
Unfortunately I can't find any information regarding the support of HANA 2.0 for EHP8 FOR SAP ERP 6.0.
Thank you for your help.

We are planning to use NW 7.40 EHP7 on HANA 2.0 which is not really supported. but that means the term during upgrade/prepare it can be used. does it mean we can use HANA 2.0 als productive if we start afterwards immediately to upgrade to NW 7.50

or how is this to interpret??

Symptom

SAP has released SAP HANA Database 2.0 for older SAP versions.

Solution

SAP has released SAP HANA Database 2.0 for SAP Kernel 7.49 64-Bit Unicode and higher for certain operating system platforms.
Therefore, certain SAP products that use these kernel versions, and are still in SAP Extended Maintenance after 2016 will be operated on SAP HANA Database 2.0.
The release of SAP HANA Database 2.0 does not cover all SAP product versions that are supported with SAP Kernel 7.49 64-Bit Unicode (e.g. SAP Netweaver 7.40).
To find out whether a special SAP product version is released for SAP HANA Database 2.0, see the SAP Product Availability Matrix (PAM). This is available at:
https://support.sap.com/release-upgrade-maintenance/pam.html

The minimum version is SAP HANA Database 2.0 SP0 Revision 001 as described in Note 2405803.
Important:
If you use SAP HANA Database 2.0 for older SAP versions of this type, the possible upgrade paths or update paths for the latest SAP software versions have certain restrictions. The reason for this is that upgrades or updates can no longer be supported afterwards for all old SAP versions. They can only be supported for recent SAP versions or those that still have a longer maintenance period.
The following list contains the possible upgrade targets or update targets if the SAP source release is already operating with SAP HANA Database 2.0. All subsequent version of this component are also supported.

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.5

  • SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.51 Innovation PKG

  • SAP S/4HANA 1610 Feature Pack Stack 01

  • SAP BW/4HANA  1.0

Special Release of SAP HANA Database 2.0 for SAP start product versions to a product version supporting SAP HANA 2.0 during the SAP Upgrade
While executing the PREPARE/Upgrade a special release of the SAP HANA Database 2.0 with SAP product versions of the source system that are not released generally for SAP HANA Database 2.0 is granted. This means that running an SAP source system with HANA Database 2.0 is released during the PREPARE/Upgrade. This is limited to the following SAP product versions as source systems:

  • SAP Netweaver 7.4

  • Enhancement Package 7 for SAP ERP 6.0

  • Enhancement Package 8 for SAP ERP 6.0

Note: The special release of SAP HANA Database 2.0 is only valid when using the downward compatible SAP Kernel 7.49 64-Bit Unicode.

thanks

oliver

Hi Marco MAININI,

Apologize for the late reply as i was having problem with my pc. From what i heard, there are some discussion to expand those products version and definitely it will take some time as there are many tasks to be taken care of and tests to be run before SAP actually release. Just keep an eyes on PAM and sap note 2420699. Hope it helps.

Cheers,

Nicholas Chang

Hi Oliver,

Yes, according to the note, it means that you can run your source system (e.g. NW 7.40) with HANA 2.0 (which is not supported in general) during an Upgrade or during the PREPARE phase.

Hope it helps,

Hello Nicholas,

thanks for the reply.

in detail this means we can upgrade our DB to Hana 2.0 and go live with that release (also with NW 740. ERP 6 EHP7 our current release), and afterwards as a follow-up we upgrade to e.g. ERP 6.0 EHP8 or whatever release officially support Hana 2.0 . is this correct so?

best regards

oliver

ensure kernel is updated to 7.49 and update/upgrade to NW7.50 (or supported product version) is follow up immediately.

Don't use non-supported NW version on HANA 2.0 for normal productive operation as it is not supported by SAP generally.

Hi Nicholas,

just for your info ,maybe interesting?

we also created an incident at SAP with the question.

Is HANA 2 supported also for productive use for ERP6 EHP7 (Kernel 7.49)  , even if we afterwards start an upgrade project.

Unfortunately an offical answer is not possible without consulting, so we have to install HANA 1 in the meantime.

It is very confusiong what sap means with "Hana 2 support for older (EHP7 ) releases", as we did not get any official statement and without official support we cannot use Hana 2. Besides our tests in Test-Environmen HANA 2 is more stable as HANA 1 under EHP7 ERP6.

Hi Oliver,

Thanks for the info. That’s interesting ?!

Does it means we can’t use HANA 2 for PREPRARE/UPGRADE without involving SAP Consulting? That’s weird… I do believe we’ll still get SAP support if we encounter problem during upgrade using HANA 2.. probably not for normal production issue.

Just for everyone info, SAP just updated note 2420699 :

“The release of SAP HANA Database 2.0 does not cover all SAP product versions that are supported with SAP Kernel 7.49 64-Bit Unicode (e.g. SAP Netweaver 7.40, SAP Suite on HANA, …).
Only if SAP HANA Database 2.0 is listed under the Database Platform section for a product in the SAP Product Availability Matrix (PAM) is it supported. To find out whether a special SAP product version is released for SAP HANA Database 2.0, see the PAM. This is available at:
https://support.sap.com/release-upgrade-maintenance/pam.html

Cheers,

Nicholas Chang

hi Nicholas,

well its really strange.

We have installed (not live yet) erp 6 EPH 7 with Hana 2 and works fine in tests.

As we found out that - and we want to go live with this constellation - it is maybe not supported, we created an oss incident. the answer was not so clear for us they told us if we want to go live with this (as they say not generally supported version) we have to talk to Consulting. So we will do this, otherwise we install Hana 1.0 unter epr 6 EHP7.

We just wanted to know if Hana 2.0 is supported in a productive environment ERP 6 EHP7 for a while, maximum as long as we made the next project upgrading to a version where Hana 2.0 is completely supported. Support does not answer such questions, so we will talk to Consulting.

From my point of view, the explanation in oss note 2420699 is very confusion, regarding Special Hana 2.0 version etc.???

Hi Oliver,

Thanks for sharing. Agree, it is confusing. But getting better as SAP is constantly update the note. But still some homework for them.  As for now, PAM is the safe direction to follow.

Do keep us posted once you hear back from consulting.

Thanks,

Hi Nicholas,

finally “EHP8 FOR SAP ERP 6.0” (“Central Applications”) is supported by HANA 2.0 starting from 31.03.2017!

From note "2171334 - EHP8 for SAP ERP 6.0 SP Stacks - Release & Information Note"
NEW: SAP HANA database 2.0 iSp stack 00 Revision 2 is released for Enhancement Package 8 for SAP ERP 6.0.

Also the PAM (https://apps.support.sap.com/sap/support/pam?hash=pvnr%3D73555000100900000247%26pt%3Dg%257Cd) confirms it.

This is an excellent news!
Kind regards,
Marco

Hi Nicholas,

Is there any document showing roadmap for supported products on HANA 2.0 during next 6 to 12 months?

Thanks

Hello! According with current PAM ERP6.0 EHP7 (based on NW7.40) is supported with SAP Kernel 7.49 and Hana 2.0

But the note 2083594 recomends use 7.45 only for existing installation of NW7.40.

Also your discussion confuses me even more.

Please, can anyone put the final point in the issue of using EHP7 + Hana2.0 for supported production installation?

You can use kernel 7.49, it is downward compatible. Check note 2350788 - Using kernel 7.49 instead of kernel 7.40, 7.41, 7.42 or 7.45.

Nicholas,

We are at 7.40 SP11 BW.  Has there been any update on the guidance as to using this with Hana 2.0 temporarily (not just during the PREPARE)

By temporarily, this would mean approx one month live in production with 7.40 SP11 / Hana 2.0 before upgrading to 7.5 SP10 / Hana 2.0.
