This eight step of the
Waste Management E2E Process for All Countries Blog Series – South African Example is to create a waste stream, which establishes the connection between waste material and where it is produced and stored for the generator in
South Africa.
A waste stream establishes the relationship between the point of generation, defined in the
Waste Management E2E Process Blog Series Step 1: Defining Locations step, with the waste that is produced, also known as the product defined in the
Waste Management E2E Process Blog Series Step 4: Characterizing Waste Material step.
Creating a waste stream is done in the
My Waste Streams - Waste Management app and can be created with or without a storage location.
If you create a waste stream with a storage location, then you will choose
Outbound - With Storage Location (OBWS). This will require an internal transfer request to move the filled container to a
Storage Location, defined in the
Waste Management E2E Process Blog Series Step 1: Defining Locations step.
However, if you create a waste stream without a storage location, then you will choose
Outbound - No Storage Location (OBNS) and this will initiate an external transfer request to a disposal facility, which will trigger the creation of transport documents.
For the
South Africa example, no storage location is needed.
To create a waste stream, follow the Best Practices scope item
Waste Management (60H) test procedure

Additionally, storage periods are shown with corresponding warnings from the Customizing activity
Environment, Health and Safety > Environment Management > Waste Management > Process Configuration > Maintain Waste Storage Periods.
Note: You can use this Customizing activity to edit the defaulted storage period time settings in days.
The container data, specified in
Waste Management E2E Process Blog Series Step 3: Waste Containers, and regulatory information are also added and identified from the validity area of the waste generator.
