The tenth step in the Waste Management E2E Process for All Countries Blog Series – South African Example is to define the waste transportation document lifecycle for South Africa.
The lifecycle of the waste transportation document needs to be defined in a series of statuses which represent
each step in the lifecycle of your transportation document. This lifecycle starts when the transportation document is created all the way until the generated waste is disposed of properly. The statuses defined in the lifecycle are defined based on the applicable regulations within a country/region.
The waste transportation document lifecycle and subsequent sequence is important for the transportation document usability. We need this lifecycle to be able to document and monitor the transportation and disposal of the generated waste.
You can define the lifecycle in the Customizing activities Specify Transportation Document Status and Specify Transportation Document Status Sequence.
SAP delivers preliminary lifecycles in the Specify Transportation Document Status Customizing activity that satisfy German and USA transportation documents, E-BGS and HWM respectively. You can extend the lifecycle for different countries/regions.

S04 |

Note: There is a constraint that the lifecycle of the transportation document can only operate with the statuses that have been delivered by SAP. These are the only ones that can be assigned to the transportation document type, previously created in Waste Management E2E Process Blog Series Step 7: Creating a Transportation Document Type, so it can be managed successfully. There is more flexibility for defining sequences because the sequence can go in any order.
The first phase of this step is to use the Specify Transportation Document Status Customizing activity to define the statuses and editability of a transportation document type.
Note: The transportation document is defaulted to read-only mode once the status Submitted is set. This is because document should change while it is being reviewed by the disposer. There are some exceptions for this, and it can be changed in the customizing activity by choosing editable, partially editable, or non-editable.
The editable fields are as follows:
- Total Confirmed Quantity
- Confirmed Quantity
- Dates for Waste Partners
- Contact Person for Waste Partners
- Status

The second phase of this step is to use the Specify Transportation Document Status Sequence Customizing activity define the sequence of the statuses so that the transportation document lifecycle is set. As stated before, this customizing activity has more flexibility. The sequence can be in any order you would like so long as you use the statuses delivered by SAP.

You have now defined the lifecycle statuses and their sequence for the waste transportation document type
Hazardous Waste Manifest Document of South Africa.
