Standard configuration values in SAP system

Hi All

A frequent question that is laid out is what do we do in terms of standard values that SAP may have provided. Some of the examples are for customer groups or for additional data fields. These values that SAP provides are typically for illustration and may not be used in a customer environment.

The question raised is what do we do with the values that are not planned to be used ? It should be safe to remove the values from the configuration that are not required so that users do not see values that are not supposed to be used. However, if these are to be removed, we also need to ensure that all language dependent description tables are also cleansed as otherwise deleting a value from one language does not remove the values from the text table for other languages. That could be an issue since a deletion of a primary key should also result in the text tables to be updated. 

What does the forum think ? Do we retain standard values that are not required or is it better for user facing drop down values to be removed ? Some system control documents do not expect redundant values in the system as a part of the certification process.

Hi,

if you remove a customizing entry also the language table entry normally gets removed.

Still you will have the SAP delivered standard customizing in client 000.

Question is what is the benefit in deleting those entries?

Besides the risk that they are possibly still used, which you normally have to find out within a complete test.

Normally, it is better to leave the SAP Standard values in the system. 

They typically serve as a reference to future Customization. For example SAP Standard Sales Order Types like OR or RE... 

For example in one of our systems we have 200+ Sales Organizations, and the SAP Template Sales Orgn 0001 is still existing.

Hi Jignesh - thank you for your response. However, what would you do for values like Purchase order type, rejection reasons or drop down values in customer master ( e.g. Price Group etc ) that you do not want to use ?

Hello Rohit,

The Values of Purchase order type, rejection reasons, etc remain in system. 

Once again, objects line SAP Standard Purchase Order Type serve as a Template for new Order Types in future. and they are recommended not to be deleted.

Hi - if you have standard values of, say, Purchase Order type and you dont want to use them, the issue would be that users may end up using the invalid value. That is a potential for error. I agree that reference document types should be retained. However, I have deleted things like order reasons / rejection reasons and have not faced an issue with the same.
