Asset accounting: area posts depreciation only

Hello,

What is the logic (in SAP help text, and books it is shown but not explained *why*) for:

1. (Leading) Depreciation area 01: "area posts in real time"

PLUS:

2. Depreciation area 20 (cost accounting): "area posts depreciation only"

Because:

A. Area 20 needs to have the initial APC too, how else can you see a complete asset history per asset if the acquisition costs are not included? Why *"posts depreciation only"*?

B. Area 01 is leading, and therefore is the *only one* that can post depreciation to CO (right?) So where does that depreciation of area 20 post to? Not to CO (so also not to "cost accounting", the description of area 20)?

Thank you,

Bye,

Hello

Are you using the depreciation area 20 for a different accounting principle and if yes, which method are you using for that, i.e. ledger or accounts?

Best regards
Ignaz

Hi all,

sorry to jump in this interesting discussion.

We're in a case with leading area is set with post APC in real time to 0L and cost accounting area with post depreciation area only to 0L. Cost accounting valuation is needed because of controlling area different currency as company code currency as well as we have capitalization version against leading area.

How do we control that depreciation are not posted twice to CO from the leading area as well as from cost accounting valuation area ?

Many thanks for your help
