g/l account field enquiry

Dear experts,

We are planning to renumber the g/l accounts. But our customer required a reference field to store the previous g/l numbers for reference. Does s4hana cloud public edition have a standard reference field for us to use? Or we need to create custom field?

The API for G/L Accounts in the SAP Business Accelerator Hub shows, there is a field 

GLAccountExternal

available, which could be used for their purposes. It would otherwise be used as a reference field in master data migration, when accounts get renumbered in S/4HANA Cloud.

Hi Andreas, I tried this "external id" field but cannot edit from UI. Do you have any ideas on how to update the value? Or any other workarounds?
