What will work look like in 2030? What trends and patterns can we observe today that will reshape the work environment of the future? How can we best prepare ourselves and our organizations for inventing future work models and solutions?

These are only a few of the questions explored in the Future of Work workshop held last year in March at SAP Labs, Palo Alto. Moderated by Dr. Tamara Carleton and Dr. William Cockayne from Stanford University's Foresight and Innovation program, the workshop relied on their foresight framework to identify multiple dimensions of the future of work, understand long-term demographics trends, find concrete yet challenging opportunities, and know where to start in addressing these opportunities.

Now you can recreate our experience in your own team—for this topic or any other innovation goal facing your team. I am very excited to announce that a personal comprehensive guide to their foresight methodology is now available.

The Playbook for Strategic Foresight and Innovation is a free hands-on guide for learning innovation best practices and inculcating them in an organization.  It is packed with over 250 pages of step-by-step instructions, diagrams, tips, examples, worksheets, case studies, and more.

Download your free copy at www.innovation.io/playbook and join the online communities to learn and share best practices in foresight at www.innovation.io/community.

Look for the full workshop report soon, summarizing the 2012 Future of Work discussions. In the meantime, you can browse specific themes identified in the workshop by SAP customers, partners and employees: the freedom to choose when we work, co-location and virtual teams, the rise - or not - of Free Agents, Millennial, social networks and social capital or diversity in the workplace.

Being a member of the mentioned workshop myself, I would like to stress the following: Of course the methods described in the playbook are great tools for reasoning about the future. However, for me the most amaizing thing about the workshop actually was the ability to create a common vision and a call to action among all participants (coming from SAP as well as from partners and customers).
