Hi,
We are planning to Migrate our ECC, BW and CRM systems from HP Unix/ Oracle to AIX/ Oracle. We are trying to find out the different approaches for reducing the downtime. Is it advisable to using the Oracle RMAN backup restore procedure since both HP Ux and AIX are Big-Endian? Is it supported by SAP ?
Please let us know
Best regards,
Arun
Hi Arun,
>> Is it advisable to using the Oracle RMAN backup restore procedure since both HP Ux and AIX are Big-Endian?
Yes, it is. I have used this approach ("Transportable Database") several times - also in the combination from HP-UX to AIX and it worked like a charm. Please also refer to my blog post .
>> Is it supported by SAP ?
Yes, it is. For more details please check SAPnote #1367451.

Stefan

Hi Arun,
I am not sure if SAP supports migrations using RMAN.
And if you want to reduce the downtime using the SAP standard export/import method then there are many ways like parallel export/import, package splitting, table splitting, or by increasing the hardware only during the migration to accommodate few extra processes.
Please refer to the heterogeneous system copy guide at SAP marketplace.
