Hm, won't the basic config between the two systems be so different that this would not achieve very much even if it does work? I would expect lots of problems with this. Having said that, I've never tried it .
Not sure what you what you want to achieve by doing this but for client copies what matters is the component levels especially the SAP_BASIS, Add-on levels. SP level, release and the product of the source and the target systems.
