Solution Manager 7.2 is already in Ramp-Up.

I watched the video of the chearful team of Solution Manager 7.2.

As System Administrators we willl also be installing and configuring Solution Manager 7.2 from now on.

So I decided to install it on premise.

Cloud version of Solution Manager 7.2 is also available on SAP Cloud Appliance Library https://cal.sap.com/

(SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SPS01 on SAP HANA for Content Activation Evaluation of a Customer's Own Documentation)

I am going to try to write some series of blogs on Solution Manager 7.2 in terms of System Administration.

They will be about installations, configurations, changes and managed system configurations.

Below you can find the installation specific part of this series of blogs.

Preperation Steps

  • Since Solution Manager 7.2 is in Ramp-Up yet you need to apply for this. You can find detailed info about Ramp-Up in links Demystifying SAP's Ramp-Up process and SAP Ramp-Up

  • Prepare a system for installation. If possible find a system that you could install SM 7.2 on HANA DB. Unfortunately I did not have chance to use HANA DB. I installed my system on SQL Server 2012. My system is a virtual system with 4 vCPU and 32 GB of RAM and enough disks.

  • Download DVDs

  • Obtain Master Guide and Installation Guides

  • Read SAP Notes about Solution Manager 7.2

  • Preperatory Steps on the system

    • Turn Off UAC

    • Turn off Automatic Updates

    • Turn off Windows Firewall

    • Turn off IE ESC

    • Timezone Settings

    • Regional Settings

    • Configure Hostname

    • Configure Page File Size

    • Configure DEP

    • Configure Folder Options

    • Configure Start Menu

    • Configure Command Prompt

    • Activate Telnet Client

    • Install Notepad++

After preperation steps I followed the Implementation sequence from Master Guide in below order.

Hi Yüksel,

I tried my first install the way you described and of course, I ended up with 7.2 SP00.  In trying to update to SP01, I ran into some problems that I could not resolve.

The way I actually successfully installed 7.2 SP01 was by following the installation directions found on the download page.  See below.

Installation:

The installation of SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SP01 needs to be run in the following way:

  1. Plan the ABAP installation with the maintenance planner.
  2. Install the SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SP01 ABAP system with SWPM and the stack.xml from step 1.
  3. Install the SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SP01 Java system with SWPM from the Java DVD.
  4. Connect the systems.

Thanks,

Roy

Hello Raufman,

I mentioned about the SP01 stack implementation in my blog under "You apply the latest kernel and Support Packages" section. And there are notes you must read and apply before SP01 implementation. Read the notes carefully.

And for Java, you donot implement SP01. Instead you must apply the pathces according to the note 2229953 - Solution Manager 7.2 SP Stack 01S0014395147: recommended corrections. as I mentioned in the blog.

Good Work Yuksel,

I have few questions, if you can reply -

1. Could you please tell me, in which step of JAVA installation, installer will understand that SMA is abap part of SMJ (java system)?

2. Whether they will be 2 database instances?

3. I just click on "Maintenance Planner" and it is showing only one system from my landscape, not all. Do we need to make any setting some where to see all the systems.?

4. In above link, I have not found the option to maintained the system, I mean to generate stack file.

Thanks

Mukesh

Hello Mukesh,

Here are the answers;

1- When you are maintaining UME information you give the ABAP systems info and user informations.

2- I put my Java DB in my ABAP DB Instance. You can install them on different instances. Also you can install the ABAP Java instances on seperate hosts.

3- I am not sure about it but I think the system definitions come from SMP. And SMP is getting the info from your solution manager. I need to check this also. If you find a doc send us also please.

4. In that link you could either plan a new system using "Plan a New System" and or select a system to plan a software change on your system by clicking "Plan".

Hi Folks,

I am stuck in installing SOLMAN 7.1 on Windows 2012 R2 standard machine.

Downloaded all media from MarketPlace.

Faced a lot of issues, as not all needed media were in the same place like The Kernel.

Each time I got stuck at one level: Import ABAP.

My question: Is it easier to install SOLMAN 7.2 ? so, i can switch !

And which version of Software Provisioning i shall use ? mine is 1.0 and does not show the SOLMAN 7.2 in the options list.

Please help, I am lost in SAP jungle

More details, if you allow me:

Opened a thread at SAP community and the media corruption was suspected : http://scn.sap.com/message/16533177#16533177

I have downloaded again the media, but got the same error (please check attached)

"

An error occurred while processing option SAP NetWeaver 7.5 > MaxDB > SAP Systems > Application Server ABAP > Standard System > Standard System( Last error reported by the step: Program 'Migration Monitor' exits with error code 103. For details see log file(s) import_monitor.java.log, import_monitor.log.). You can now:

  • Choose Retry
  • Choose Log Files
  • Stop the option and continue later.

Log files are written to C:/Program Files/sapinst_instdir/NW750/ADA/INSTALL/STD/ABAP.

"

Thanks in advance.

Hi Community Folks,

Still insisting and trying to sort this issue and succeed SOLMAN 7.1  installation.

Actually, in Market Place, only Media for 7.1 are available (and have downloaded all of them), so that decided to continue with it.

I have downloaded the latest version of SLTOOLSET Software Provisionning and , restarted the installation, but unfortunately, with same error at same level...

However, i took a look at the sapinst_dev and sapinst_loginquirer files and found one pertinent error:

System call failed. Error 5 (Access is denied.

) in execution of system call 'CreateFile' with parameter (C:\Documents and Settings), line (26) in file (d:\depot\bas\720_rel\bc_720-2_rel\gen\optu\ntamd64\ins\sapinst\impl\src\syslib\synxclink.cpp), stack trace: d:\depot\bas\720_rel\bc_720-2_rel\gen\optu\ntamd64\ins\sapinst\impl\src\guiengine\iaxxdirbrs.cpp: 74: CDirectoryBrsHandler::doHandleDoc()

Failed action: CreateFile with parameters C:\Documents and Settings

The problem, is that I do not have drive (D:) in my virtual Windows machine !!!

And during the preparation phase, i have never mentionned a path with 😧 (C: rather, contains all media).

So, this might be the root cause ??

Can anyone help, please ??

Ahmed.

Dear Yogesh,

Thanks for your input.

Actually, I have checked the User profiles and they do not have any access restrction.

Besides, the 😧 drive does not exist at my system. It is a DVD and my system is virtual !!!!

I got another advice from one colleague also to disable Integrity checks, but did not succeed:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.3.9600]

C:\Windows\System32>bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

The operation completed successfully.

Hi Yogesh,

Unfortunately, there is no single entry in the registry database refering to this path..

Please, see snapshot with search & result.

In the other hand, during pre-checks, the Software Provisionning alarted me about 2 pre-requisities (One Windows fix + Swap size): Please, may you have a look (in the same snapshot).

why it is showing 7.5

SOLMAN 7.1 is in NW740.

Hi Mukesh,

I think, it depends on the SLTOOL Softare Provisioning Manager.

I have downloaded the latest version 1.2016 (see snapshot).

I am trying to install the Netweaver now, then, will install the SOLMAN on top of it.

if you have any suggestion, please advice.

If you have any smart hand procedure, apart from the official mauals, please share it with me; because I am really lost.

Hi Ahmad,

1. You have to understand that you are installing SAP SOLMAN 7.1 .. Right ?

2. If Yes, SOLMAN 7.1 is based on NW 740. Then there is no meaning of taking SWPM that has feature of 7.5 and SOLMAN 7.2.

I can suggest, please use lower version of SWPM which has option for SOLMAN 7.1 and select option as I suggested in previous screenshot.

Thanks

Mukesh

Hi Mukesh,

Thanks, totally agree with you...

However, in all SAP notes and guides, they advise to use the latest version of SWPM !!

Besides, please, can you guide me which exact version i might use and from where I can download ?

I used this link to fetch the latest version, but all of the available versions are (new) of 2016:

https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/~form/handler?_APP=00200682500000001943&_EVENT=DISPHIER&HEADER=Y&FUNCTIO...

Used also : https://support.sap.com/software/installations/a-z-index.html

then, Installations and Upgrades - S" SL TOOLSET" SL TOOLSET 1.0

Thanks for your guidance, and let us cose this discussion here, as part of SOLMAN 7.2

Warm Regards,

Ahmed.

I found where to fetch the SWPM for SOLMAN 7.1:

The version should be 70SWPM10SP09_9-20009707

It is located in MaretPlace :

https://websmp202.sap-ag.de/~form/handler?_APP=00200682500000001943&_EVENT=DISPHIER&HEADER=Y&FUNCTIO...

Then click : Software Logistics Toolset 1.0

Then scroll down and click :

download tool /

Then : Support Package patches ==> look down and select from the 4 lines the desired version.

For SOLMAN 7.1, as it is based on Netweaver 7.0, then we can select either:

-

70SWPM10SP09_9-20009707.sar

SWPM 1.0 SP09 for NW7.0x

70SWPM10SP10_2-20009707.sarSWPM 1.0 SP10 for NW7.0x

Will resume the setup, and see if this will work for me.

Thanks and I suggest that this shoule be included in the guides...

Hi,

I downloaded SWPM from the Maintenance planner and obtained the stack file. However when I try to execute SAPINST I get the following error message:

Seems like it is trying to target SP2 instead of SP1 in the stack.xml.

Any pointer as to how I can solve that ?

Generated XML file points to the following info:

<constraint name="sps" value="73554900103300001611" description="02 (04/2016)"/>

Thanks.

Where do you see that its trying SP2 ?

Former Member

Hi Yogesh,

I must have misused Maintenance Planner because it was trying to install Solution Manager 7.2 with SAP Fiori for Solution Manager 1.0 instead of Netweaver 7.4...

I was able to regenerate a stack file with the correct information and it worked.

However, I am now stuck during the installation of SP01 with SUM.

Upgrade is stuck during phase MAIN_UPTRANS/SUCCCHK because of Transport Request SAPK-74022INCTSPLGN.

I have followed the recommendations of SAP Note 2197897 and it has not worked so far.

I am opening an OSS message for this problem.

Thank you for your time.

Former Member

Marc see note https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap/support/notes/2220306

You need to remove the transport from the buffer. here are my notes:

-

  • Take the backup of the buffer file SMD in the directory <Drive>:\SUM\abap\buffer by copying it to another folder

Then

Execute the command in CMD Prompt in your above described buffer directory "tp delfrombuffer  SAPK-74022INCTSPLGN <SID> pf=<drive_letter>:\SUM\abap\var\DEFAULT.TPP". This will delete the package from buffer

so for example my SUM folder was on X:\ on Windows and my SID was SMD - X:\SUM\abap\buffer>tp delfrombuffer SAPK-74021INCTSPLGN SMD pf=X:\SUM\abap\var\DEFAULT.TPP

Former Member
0 Kudos

That worked!

Thank you for your Help Andrew!

Upgrade is now on its way again!

Slight adjustment to your recommended solution since I did not have the tp program in my buffer folder for some reason, I had to use the one from my SAP instance at \usr\sap\SM2\DVEBMGS00\exe\tp.exe

hi

We installed the solman 7.2 vanilla setup. And now while trying to upgrade to SP02 from SP00, SUM complains "j2ee engine was not deinstalled properly". In the stack.xml contains information that the system is a solman and contains a java instance as well. The java is instance running as a tenant db on the oracle DB.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hello Veena,

Solution Manager 7.2 is not a dual stack installation.

When you run maintenance planner as you could see above SM Abap Stack is coming. There is no Java stack.

Hi Yüksel

Yes correct its installed as a separate double stack. How can i proceed in upgrading the system then since now i have java instance also running on the machine?

yakcinar

Hello Veena,

Try creating maintenance transaction using maintenance planner and create the ABAP stack xml. Think Java as different system on the same host. You will deal with it later.

Just create ABAP Stack xml for your system.

Then use latest SUM tool and apply the stack to your ABAP system.

Hi Yüksel

The issue we have is, our SOlman 7.2 sp00 is running on Oracle(abap and java on 1 db instance), and during the upgrade, SUM upgrade of abap stack(we only provided abap stack.xml) sees j2ee in the system says the deinstallation of j2ee did not work.

The question now is does the db also need to be seperate, because it looks like the SUM sees java and does not like it.

Hello Veena,

I am using SQL Server and the same instance with the same DB ID. Only schema differs.

It mustnot be a problem.

What about the definition of your SID on market place. Is it defined "SAP SOLUTION MANAGER 7.2" as product , "Solution Manager ABAP" as usage type and "SAP NETWEAVER" as Installation Product?

I have Small Doubt here in solution manager 7.2. I have installed the solution manager 7.2 ABAP successfully & applied all the parameter as suggested by SAP Note no-2048519.after that i have run all the post steps and done the client copy also. So my doubt is can i install the Solution Manager 7.2 JAVA directly or else need to be upgrade the ABAP STACK.

Hello Hemant,

Install ABAP first. When you are installing Java you can define your ABAP system as UME system.

You don't need to upgrade ABAP before installing Java system. You can do it after Java Installation.
