How to connect to users?

Hi,

I have to re-post this question  as I posted in wrong forum earlier.

Whenever I try to send direct message to someone in this site ,I get the following error message -"Cannot send direct messages to users you are not connected to".

How do I connect to the person I am sending the message?

Please help.

You should be following each other to send direct messages.

To send a direct message to user A. Just make sure user A is following you. You do not need to follow the user A.

If you are following user A, then you can't able to send direct message to user A, user A can able to send you. But if user A is following you, then you can send direct message to user A, user A can't able to send you. Following each other, you and user A can send direct message to each other.

Following each other is mandatory only for sharing a content.
