In FRANCE, since the beginning of this year, the NAF code (by INSEE) have changed : now it is a 5 characters zone (4 numbers + 1 letter) and no more a 4 characters zone (3 numbers + 1 letter).
This code is writing in SAP in the standard field "Industry" LFA1-BRSCH but the problem is that itu2019s a 4 characters zone.
We want to modify the field length ourself by changing the length of the data element BRSCH
I know it is not recommended to make any changes. However i want to know the impact and what we have to do.
Can someone help me ?
Thank you for your help.

Hi Robert
You should find an OSS note for this, if it's a legal change. You should certainly request such a note.
The consequences of changing data element yourself are possibly:
o Programs relying on the field being four characters in length failing
o Large tables having to be converted - which can bring a production system to its knees
So - best advice - talk to SAP first!
