When I first saw the blog post from susan.keohan I thought: “oh yeah, this is a great initiative, I want to contribute”! But as I was quite busy with the completion of end year activities 2019, I wasn’t yet able to draft one. And now I have been tagged! ? Thanks, mynyna.chau for tagging me and apologies for the delay… it was Christmas and New Year holidays in Germany ?

Different to what Mynyna mentioned, that she has to step out of her comfort zone to tell personal things, I shared already some personal stories about me in my previous blog posts but let me give you a bit of my origin.

About me

I was born in Bremerhaven, North Germany, and moved 1998 to Heidelberg. Since 2010 I live together with my husband Christian and my two children Tom (12 years old) and Lilli (almost 10 years old) in the small city Lampertheim, which is at the north border to Mannheim. I am with SAP for almost 20 years – yes, my 20st working anniversary will be on May 1st, 2020. I came to SAP by coincident – I quit my previous job as an administrative clerk in a huge fitness club here in the region because as I was also employed as a group fitness instructor, I didn’t want to handle both activities in this combination anymore. After 4 weeks of only teaching my cardio classes, I joined SAP. And have been embraced by the lovely culture of SAP. Since then I worked in 6 different departments, for 12 different managers, in 6 different SAP buildings (all in Walldorf) and together with hundreds of different colleagues – sorry that I didn’t count that exact number ?

Following my duty, these are the questions I have been asked by Mynyna to answer:

Name the person who affected you most in your career/ way of thinking and why?

My third manager at SAP came into my mind. His name is Christian and he really has great social skills. He sees the specialty and individual skills in each person at first sight. And he knows well how to support those, too. Unfortunately, he left SAP 2007 and I am still very sorry about that!

You can be sure, that I met a lot of friends during my SAP career but I have also built up some very strong relationships to some people and they don't want to be named but they supported me throughout my time at SAP in business but also private matters.

Share a fun fact/story about yourself that people don’t know

I think most of you already figured out that I am a sports person. When I was 10 years old, I started with playing handball. After another 10 years I joined my first Aerobic class and finally, I became a group fitness instructor. I added snowboarding and mountain biking to my hobbies as well as running. All these activities I still do regularly. But 2006 I had one highlight: together with my husband I crossed the Alps from Austria (Zillertal) to Italy (Lake Garda) in 5 days with our Mountain bikes. This was probably one of the most amazing trips I ever done. Here are some impressions:

What personnel development skills do you think everyone should have or strive to have?

In the last months I realized that a lot of people get stuck in their ‘hamster wheel’. Often people complain that it’s too much work, too many appointments, too much homework for the kids, etc. … I think this is true for all of us. And it’s hard to change or to reduce. But you should try to make a difference instead of complaining. My suggestion is: accept all these challenges and find a way to handle them and/or to just let some things go. What is really important to you? What is the impact of doing/not doing things? Be sure, that you cannot control everything. And stop complaining. Instead, add quality times for and with yourself like meditation, sports, sauna, a walk in the nature, a good book or any other hobby. So the skill I mean is be mindful/mindfulness.

What do you most enjoy about the SAP Community?

I love the interaction with all the different community members from all around the world, from different cultures, different continents. You really see that there are already strong relationships between people, who even didn’t meet in person. And therefore, I love the SAP Community events like SAP Stammtisch and SAP Inside Track. And I am not mentioning this because it’s part of my role. I am 100 % convinced that it’s such a great chance to meet the people in person you only know from your virtual activities. As you might have seen, I traveled a lot in 2019 to visit different SITs around Europe. I met so many interesting people and also met them often more than only once. It makes a difference once you met someone in person. The relationship changes. That’s what I love most!

Which is your most favorite travel destination and why?

This is a very difficult question. I was in so many countries already and love almost all of them. I can definitely say that I love the sea. Maybe because of my origin! But in general, I am not a “black and white” person so I love to travel, and I love being at the sea, especially with warm and sunny weather! ?

In addition to the questions I have been asked, I would like to add a funny story related to my work. In the early months of my SAP career, I was below 30, a new company benefit had been introduced to me and my colleagues. I can’t really remember the offering itself, but it was definitely something which you can only profit from once you are 34. Our manager asked us what we think about the offering. As mentioned I still was under 30, I said loudly: “It’s a nice offering but I mean, when I am 34, I am pretty sure, I won’t work here anymore”… no comment on this (when you have read the ‘About me’ section carefully) ?

When thinking of what to write about myself, I realized that I already learnt, experienced, saw, got to know, … so many things and places in life. It's difficult to show only a part of that. But I hope you learnt something new about me. ?

AND… I hope to learn something new from:

These are the questions I would like to read your answers:

  • If you were 20 again, what would you study?

  • Share a fun fact/story about yourself that people don’t know

  • If you could be a super hero (or are in your spare time) who would you be?

  • If you were given by your work a full day every week to do whatever you feel like, what would it be?

  • Do you do sports and if yes, what are you doing? Regularly?

Looking forward to reading the posts ?
