Does BIA load the X table in memory so that navigational attribute joins are accomplished at the speed of BIA?
Hi Mike. Columns of F, S, X, Y tables (i.e. indexes) that are required to produce final result set in BIA are loaded into the main memory.
Do you have any specific issue that you observed when running queries with navigational attributes?

When you run ABAP ZZ_BIAMEMCONSUMPTION_BW3X to estimate BIA memory requirements it does capture the X tables as well. So my assumption is that nav attributes are included.
