Dear abapers,

i am posting this because i counldn't find any where in 'scn'.

as per the following link:

http://saptechnical.com/Tutorials/Workflow/WorkflowTutorialOne/WorkFlowTutorial1.htm

*******************************************************************************************************

The Tasks are the steps in the process, which have to be performed either by people or automatically by the software.

For example, to check for the availability of the spare computers in the company.

A Work item is the task instance that is performed as a single workflow step.

For example, check that there are no spare computers available in the company.

*******************************************************************************************************

what is the difference between task and work item?

as per above example checking availability of the spare computers in the company can be done by task, after finishing task's job it will return some message

about spare computers are there or not then why this work item, what is this work item?

about the above example i didn't understand anybody please elaborate clearly with another example about work item?

For the example : Workitem would be for 'Yes' or 'No' for the availability of spare computers. The workitem would appear in the SAP inbox of the responsible person and he would take the decision.

Task would be to validate if there are spare computers available. This could be done via methods of classes or likewise. Thanks.

Hello,

Task is a static entity (or Declaration and definition of activities to be performed), whereas a worrkitem is a runtime entity.

To understand it better, you can consider the following analogy

1. If you consider Task ~ Class, then

         Task Container ~ Class Attrubutes

Task Method    ~ Class Method (which will work on class attributes)

2. If Task ~ Class then WorkItem ~ Class Object.

Hope this will help for you understand difference between Task and WorkItem.

Hi,

From a practical perspective, workitem requires an action from user e.g. approve or reject a leave request. It would be shown in the user's inbox till the user takes a decision on that.

On the other hand, task is an activity used for many purposes. See this link

Also you could check task containers, binding between task container and workflow containers etc. for clear understanding. I would suggest if you have an existing workflow in your system, have a look at them to understand the right concept! Thanks.

    I agree with Kumud,

workitem requires an action from user and it requires user action for certain purupose.

Task is an activity either performed by the user or by the software itself.

Hi,

Workflow task is nothing but your activity design to do a designated job.

Work item - A work item is a way of keeping track of the tasks.
