why changes made to IDOC_DATA in exit_sapliedp_001 is not retained?

In  the IDOC type REMADV inside the customer exit- exit_sapliedp_001, I am making some changes to the value of a segment but when the IDOC is posted those values are not retained in the IDOC_DATA[ ] which is provided as a tables parameter. Can anyone help.

Have you activated the exit?

Did you debug it to make sure that the IDOC_DATA[] is changed as you expect?
