Why can't the SIA shut down the AdaptiveJobServer?

Hello - on BI 4.1 SP4 - we are noticing that we're unable to fully stop the SIA via the net stop command.  The SIA remains in a stopping state.  Every server is able to shut down with the exception of the AdaptiveJobServer.  In the SIA logs, and in Windows Event logs, we see hundreds of attempts to stop the JobServer (SIA is forcing server NODE.AdaptiveJobServer to terminate) over the course of several hours.

In order to get the SIA to successfully stop the AJS, we need to manually terminate the JobServerChild.exe processes via TaskManager.  Once that's complete the SIA is able to shut down the Adaptive Job Server and stop completely.

Have you noticed this, and have you been able to determine why the JobServerChild process will not terminate?  GLF logs for the jobserverchild processes show no errors.  Windows event logs do show a few "Transport Errors" for JobServerChild processes.

Things we are considering:

  • Should we be also issuing server start/stop commands after net start via ccm.exe command line?
  • Should we adjust the number of maximum child jobs from the default of 100 to a smaller number (like 1)?

Thank you for any advice you might have!

Hi there

I realize this is a 6 years old post but we are running into the exact same issue so posting a reply in hopes that someone might have any inputs to offer. We are on 4.2 SP8 P200. The issue is not consistent though. We do a monthly maintenance and found this to happen a few times during those events and are not able to replicate this on will.

We have to force kill the jobserverchild.exe (when jobs are running) or jobserver.exe (no jobs running) for the SIA to go into a Stopped state and the logs with the default trace do not have any useful information. We are planning to perform the maintenance activity every weekend in hopes to replicate the issue and capture logs with High tracing.

Appreciate any inputs. Thanks in advance.

Venkat
